Description:

Are you the R&D engineer who would like to help protect society from the disruptive effects of interference in satellite navigation? Are you the architect of new technological innovations for reliable positioning and navigation and accurate timing? If so, we’d like to talk to you!

What will you be doing?

You will work on innovative concepts for optimizing the performance of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems. You will be using a variety of tools such as a satellite navigation simulator to understand the vulnerabilities of PNT systems. You use those insights to set up and carry out tests in the laboratory or in the field. You evaluate the performance of Galileo and EGNOS and develop and test solutions such as anti-jamming antennas. You will have regular contact with the customers; you like giving well-founded advice and you can also manage projects. You work for and with the national, European and international industrial sector, other institutes, universities and government.

At NLR, you will be a part of the satellite navigation group. On a daily basis you will work in small project teams of varying composition.  Working at NLR is typified by its variety and dynamic working relationships. The navigation group works from our Amsterdam and Marknesse branches.

What are we looking for?

  • You have a Master degree in physics, geosciences, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a similar field
  • You have knowledge of PNT
    - A specialisation in PNT and/or electromagnetic signals, propagation and interference; and/or
    - At least 5 years of work experience in a navigation-related field
  • You are driven to keep developing yourself in your field of expertise
  • You can bridge the gap between technology customer needs
  • You are analytical and result-oriented
  • You are fluent in English, both in writing and speaking
  • You have a good command of the Dutch language or are willing to learn it

What can we offer you?

  • A challenging job in a high-tech working environment, with both national and international aspects
  • Space to develop in a direction that suits you
  • An organization that values cooperation, an orientation towards results, and commitment
  • Good terms of employment and flexibility for your work-life balance

Your new working environment?

Royal NLR has been an ambitious, knowledge-based organization for over a hundred years now, with a desire to keep innovating. That drive is helping us make the world of transport safer, greener, more efficient and more effective. We are on the threshold of innovations that will genuinely break the mould. Plans and ideas really get moving if they are nourished with the right kind of energy. Over 600 well-motivated professionals, from aeronautical engineers to psychologists and from mathematicians to end user domain experts, work at NLR on research and innovation. Our Amsterdam branch was recently renovated, and a splendid new building has been built in Marknesse.

The ASIS department focuses on space systems and their applications. We support the Dutch government and industry in the domains of space, defence and security and critical infrastructure. We are organized into four market-oriented teams. Most people are involved in several teams, which may also be in other departments.

  • PNT – reliable positioning, navigation and timing
  • C5ISR – Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
  • Mission support – mission preparation, planning, assessment and lessons learned
  • Space Systems – safety in and from space
