Description:

Thales Nederland is active in the Defence and Security sectors and is, with more than 2000 employees, the top provider of high-tech jobs. Product innovation and swift anticipation of the newest technological possibilities are the mainsprings of our business. Thales Nederland is a world leader in the naval radar market, producing high-tech radar systems that continuously push technology boundaries. These radar systems consist of active electronically scanned phased array antennas that combine different technological disciplines at high levels of integration. Thales Nederland is part of the Thales Group, which has a workforce of 70,000 in more than 50 countries making it one of Europe’s largest electronics companies.

The Thales Group is one of the pioneers of de facto standards that structure the rail sector today: for metro, CBTC systems (Communications-Based Train Control) and for mainline rail, ETCS (European Train Control System).

Did you know that….

  • Thales Transportation Systems is the worldwide no. 2 in rail signalling?

  • Some 1,000 Thales interlocking systems equip the rail networks of more than 25 countries?

  • The 75 km Dubai metro system – the longest driverless metro system in the world – is equipped with a complete solution supplied by Thales, including CBTC, telecommunications, supervision, security, ticketing and car park management?

  • 15,700 km of railway lines around the world are equipped with the ETCS solution from Thales?

  • Thales’s SelTrac CBTC system currently operates on 56 lines in 30 of the world’s largest cities, carrying three billion passengers annually?

For the Dutch high speed railway line we have delivered the train security and are supplier of the national network of axel counters as part of the Prorail train safety network. Rail is one of the focus areas within Thales Nederland, therefore we are looking for a

The department Bids & Innovation of Thales Transportation Systems is responsible for the realization of technical and service solutions. The roadmap for the international Thales product- and service portfolio is used as a base for the Dutch market.
As Senior System Engineer, you are the technical sparring partner with the customer. The customer information is the basis for discussions with the system designers from Thales design centres. As System Engineer, you will also strive to translate the system challenges into actions for the internal organisation and suppliers. For tenders you decide, in collaboration with the sales department, what can be offered to customers.

  • You know the configuration of the customer's system and can anticipate major changes in the system;
  • At the conceptual level you know how the system works: system architecture, network configuration, software modules and the course of the data streams;
  • You understand the importance of the system for the customer;
  • You know both internally and at the client side who are important for your role, mainly process managers and resource managers;
  • You maintain contacts with the technical coordinators of the product design centres, with the ITIL process managers, and with the customer’s technical managers;
  • You are chiefly a coordinator, however, in major projects you have a technical project manager / chief engineer role.

About you

  • You have successfully completed a technical Bachelor or Master degree;
  • You are a true System Engineer with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the area of ERTMS and main rail signalling design/architecture;
