Background
An increasing reliance on models within financial sector creates a new type of risk. This risk needs to be managed properly to avoid potential financial and reputational damages and to meet growing regulatory expectations. For that purpose ING is currently strengthening and extending its Model Risk Management (MoRM) team.
MoRM is a fast growing, energetic, international team of highly qualified professionals. Part of it is a new tribe - Model Risk Oversight (MRO). MRO is developing and rolling out globally the new MoRM framework which scope covers all models used within ING Bank worldwide.
Your work environment
You are part of the MRO tribe and you will be based in Amsterdam. The MRO tribe consists currently of four squads, one of which is Framework & Governance squad to which this role is allocated. The role requires interactions with many (senior) stakeholders on a variety of potentially high profile topics. The environment that you work in can be described as dynamic, professional with fast changing requirements and needs.
The MoRM is currently adopting the ING Agile One Way of Working.
Your Job
As an (Senior) Expert Policy & Governance Function you will contribute to the further development and enhancement of the global Model Risk Management Framework and its consistent application across the organization – on central (headquarters) as well as local (country) level. You will ensure our Policies’ Framework is complete, up to date with all new regulatory and industry developments, clear and easy to understand by each specific target group.
You will be responsible for:
Developing and maintaining MoRM policies in cooperation with subject matter experts
Ensuring consistency within the framework and alignment with the rest of ING’s policies
Developing policies key risk controls and supporting MoRM policy embedding by providing expert advice to stakeholders
Developing and conducting training on MoRM policy framework
Providing quality assurance review of policies, standards, procedures, guidelines etc. developed by MoRM and other model risk related policies developed within the wider ING organization
Maintaining an inventory of all relevant to model risk regulations and industry developments/ best practices
Coordinating the publication of MoRM policies and related documents on the ING’s intranet.
Your Profile
We are looking for candidates with an academic degree, working experience in a global organization in the financial services industry extensive affinity with policy development and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of risk management incl. methodologies used in non-financial risk area and model risk management is required.
Key competencies
Understanding of key regulations (such as ECB guidelines to internal models, TRIM Guide, SR 11-7) and their respective effects on Model Risk Management
Ability to draft policy documents, formal reports, discussion papers, proposals and executive communications
Excellent communication skill, being able to convey complex messages in simple ways both orally and on paper;
Good listener and interviewer, able to obtain information from subject matter experts and incorporate stakeholders’ feedback.
Excellent stakeholders management skills, ensuring all deliverables are produced on time and up to the quality expected on executive level
Ability to facilitate decision-making to drive complex issues to a conclusion.
Well-developed influencing skills and persuasiveness to explain to different audiences the policy requirements and their application in practice.
Ability to build bridges between different levels, different people and different cultures,
Flexibility to work on more than one topic simultaneously and variety of activities.
Able to work on a dynamic environment and manage stress without losing focus from goals and deliverables.
High degree of independence and pro-active attitude
Technical skills and track record
Excellent analytical skills, e.g. to be able to understand complex information, to extract the essence and translate it into clear definitions and statements.
Research capabilities, to explore and identify new topics and developments relevant to model risk management.
Well organized and structured, to be able to deliver high quality documents within tight timelines.
Experienced in developing policy documents based on legislations and stakeholder interactions;
Skilled in using MS product suite (word, excel, power point, etc)
Excellent English verbal and writing skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to build effective working relationships and thrive in a diversified and multicultural work environment;
Enjoy learning, sharing and have innovative mindset;
