In this role, you will contribute to a pioneering portfolio of translational research, advancing the security and reliability of the healthcare sector. You will be part of a multidisciplinary environment where scientific excellence, practical relevance, and ethical responsibility reinforce each other. Here you can make a difference by leading your research in the area of interconnected systems, artificial intelligence, and new technology. This is your opportunity to shape the future of digital healthcare.

Z-CERT is the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for the Dutch healthcare sector, dedicated to keeping healthcare institutions digitally secure. LABS is the research and innovation centre of Z-CERT. LABs stands for Leading Advancements in Better Security. You will work at Z-CERT LABs in an intersection of cutting-edge science, emerging technologies, and real-world societal impact.

What will you be doing?

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will play a key role in shaping and executing our research agenda focused on interconnected systems, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies in healthcare environments. You will work with multidisciplinary experts, sector partners, and security specialists to ensure your research yields real-world impact.

Hands‑On Research & Scientific Leadership

  • Conduct and co-lead research activities from design to publication.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to building a rigorous research culture.
  • Serve as a knowledge partner in project teams, providing conceptual and technical guidance.
  • Shape and refine research workflows, tools, and methodologies within LABS

Translational Research & Real-World Impact

  • Deliver research outcomes that inform cyber threat mitigation and digital healthcare resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, sector partners, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Lead pilot deployments and validation studies in operational environments.

Who are you?

You are an ambitious, curious and impact-driven researcher who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and is motivated by real-world complexity. You enjoy both scientific autonomy and collaboration with technical and clinical stakeholders.

This is what you bring

  • A completed PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field.
  • Strong research methodology and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and healthcare environments.
  • Experience with Graph Theory is a plus.
  • Ability to translate complex findings to scientific, technical, and executive audiences.
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary and research-intensive settings.
  • Dutch language level B1 or willingness to reach B2/C1 (supported by Z-CERT).

Future Growth & Development
This role is designed to support your transition toward an independent research profile and potentially a more senior role in the future. A part‑time arrangement (in combination with university teaching) is possible.

Where will you be working?

Good to know

A pre-employment screening is part of our recruitment process. At Z-CERT, we want to ensure that every new employee is a good fit for our organisation. A personal and substantive match is important, and we assess this during the interview process. In addition, we aim to maintain a safe and trustworthy working environment, given the sensitive nature of the data we work with.
The screening contributes to a careful and responsible hiring process. It allows us not only to select the right candidate based on personality and competencies, but also to apply the necessary security measures. This aligns with the values and responsibilities of Z-CERT as an organisation.
For the screening, we work with an external partner. Any screening will always take place in consultation with you and with full respect for your privacy.
