Supervise one of the largest Dutch banks as an senior banking supervisor on operational risk at DNB.
You will have an impact
Do you want your work to have an impact on financial stability and on the banking sector´s ability to support sustainable growth? As a senior banking supervisor focusing on operational risk at DNB you can do so by leveraging on your analytical and (inter)personal skills in a stimulating and professional environment. You will be at the center of European banking supervision dynamics and will supervise one of the Dutch systemically important banks. You will be part of an intercultural team of European supervisors, in a changing and challenging environment.
This is how to do that as a supervisor at DNB
You will be part of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and will work in a Joint Supervisory Team (JST), a team of supervisors from both DNB and the European Central Bank (ECB). The JST’s task is to assess the risks the bank faces and check that the bank is equipped to manage those risks properly.
What exactly does the position entail?
Within the team, you are a member of the JST’s operational risk cluster, consisting of two operational risk, and two IT and data experts. You will focus on the operational risk aspects, assessing the bank’s operational risk framework, based on the methodology of the SSM, and its operating effectiveness.
Your main responsibilities will include the following:
You will specifically focus on risks and risk management and controls in the areas of e.g. business processes, conduct, compliance, legal, products and business practices as well as on operational risks in other risk areas such as credit and market risk.
You will address operational risks that are out of appetite and identify emerging operational threats for the bank based on relevant developments such as the rise of Fintech, climate change and macro-economic trends.
You will initiate, design and lead in-depth risk assessments, recommend risk mitigation actions and monitor the bank’s follow up.
You will design strategies to influence the bank to reduce its risks and strengthen weaknesses in its operational risk framework.
You will have regular meetings with the bank’s (senior) management to discuss, among other things, the bank’s adherence to its operational risk framework and to communicate the outcome of your assessments and recommendations.
You will share your findings with your colleagues from the JST and/or within DNB through (written) analyses or presentations to allow banks’ risk profiles to be assessed consistently and facilitate decision-making about necessary supervisory measures to be taken.
Depending on your qualifications, you will be given the opportunity to grow into the role of coordinating the cluster. The coordination role includes, among other things, the quality assurance of the cluster, a coaching role (without management responsibilities) and participation in the JST’s Risk Management Committee.
This is where you will be working
As a senior banking supervisor you will be based at DNB in Amsterdam. DNB is part of the European Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), through which the ECB is ultimately responsible for supervision of all euro area banks. The ECB directly supervises the largest European banks, the Significant Institutions (SIs).
You will work in the European Banks Supervision Division (EUBA), which is engaged in supervising Significant Institutions. Your team is tasked with the supervision of one of these banks in the Netherlands. The JST consists of around 20 professionals, of which two third is based in Amsterdam, with various nationalities. Working for the SSM means that you will have to regularly travel abroad (e.g. to the ECB in Frankfurt) for training, on-site inspections and other activities.
This what we need from you
At DNB you will be working together with dedicated professionals. You need to be decisive and have strong analytical skills. Our supervisors have an unparalleled ability to exert influence.
