On 18 and 19 November, the Municipality of The Hague is offering a one-day leadership training tailored to the cybersecurity sector. The training is based on recent research commissioned by the Municipality of The Hague, which shows that talent retention is also a leadership challenge.
The Municipality of The Hague values the unique cybersecurity network in the city and wants to help it grow and remain strong. By investing in leadership development, we aim to help organisations create an environment where cybersecurity professionals can develop, thrive, and stay in the sector.
Three practical leadership competencies
The training focuses on three practical competencies that can help leaders build resilience in themselves and the people they lead:
Gain greater insight on pressure: Recognise sources of pressure at different levels, from individual and task-related factors to organisational and environmental factors.
Give meaningful feedback: Understand the difference between feedback for performance evaluation and feedback for professional development, both when giving and receiving feedback.
Acknowledge progress and success more often: Learn to recognise smaller but meaningful signs of progress, sound judgement and growing competence, rather than focusing only on the next demand.
Research in The Hague: Cybersecurity Talent Retention is Also a Leadership Challenge
Cybersecurity continues to face a persistent shortage of qualified talent. This is not only a labour market issue. Organisations themselves also hold an important key to retaining talent. New research by the Municipality of The Hague, carried out in collaboration with MultiTeam Solutions, shows that a sense of competence at work and support from direct managers are associated with lower levels of stress, burnout and intention to leave an organisation.
The findings highlight the importance of leadership as part of a broader approach to tackling the cybersecurity talent shortage. As an international cybersecurity city, The Hague is translating the findings directly into action by offering free leadership training for professionals in the sector.
