We are looking for an ambitious Assistant or Associate Professor to strengthen our fast-growing team in Internet security. You would become part of an interdisciplinary team of more than 20 people from all over the world. Our work is being published in leading venues like IEEE Security & Privacy, USENIX Security, ACM CCS, NDSS, ACM IMC, WWW and elsewhere. We have a lot of smart PhD researchers and postdocs who need your experience and guidance and who can provide you with a platform to publish innovative research at the highest level. At the same time, we are willing to invest in you with appropriate mentoring and an institutionalized personal development program. We need to strengthen our expertise in data science, networking and measurement, but we are open to a variety of profiles and interests.
You would also contribute to our teaching efforts for about 40% of your time. Course selection depends on your background and preferences. We teach in TPM’s interdisciplinary Master programs, the 4TU Master of Cybersecurity and in the Cybersecurity Academy MSc in The Hague.
We offer a dynamic environment with lots of new projects where you would be in the lead, building your own team and developing your leadership skills. We already have fully-funded PhD positions in the area of IoT that would be supervised by you. You will have a lot of flexibility and freedom in where you want to take your research. Together with you, we will formulate a tenure-track agreement in which your main objectives and tasks are specified. At the end of the track, the position is automatically changed into a permanent tenure contract, barring significant performance issues. You are encouraged to participate in a personal development program. For applicants for an Associate Professor appointment, a shorted path will be proposed towards tenure, based on your track record.
Requirements
A doctoral degree in computer science or related areas and an outstanding research track record are required. Experience in empirical research, Internet security, network measurement, statistics, and working with other disciplines are big pluses. Applicants are expected to pursue an internationally visible research agenda and to build up their research team. When you apply for Associate Professor, you must demonstrate a track record that shows you to be on the path to become an internationally-renowned scientist.
Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is a high-ranked and world-renowned academic institution. Within the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, we manage a close-knit security and privacy team of more than 20 people from all over the world. We believe in team-based science and most of our publications are joint work. The core of the team consists of computer scientists, complemented with researchers from social science, statistics, economics and other disciplines. The team has an empirical focus: we study the causal forces that shape security problems in the real world, as well as measure the effects of interventions.
We collaborate closely with industry and governments, giving us access to unique data sets and operational environments. Our research has had visible impact in various areas and is regularly featured on TV and in news media. Our measurements on botnet mitigation for the Dutch government have led the Dutch ISPs to set up AbuseHub, a clearinghouse for botnet data. Our research on criminal underground markets is used in ongoing investigations of the High Tech Crime Unit from the Dutch police. And we are working with Fox-IT, a leading security provider, to develop predictive risk metrics for enterprise networks (part of a collaborative project with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Tulsa).
The position includes the supervision of PhD researchers that are funded through various organizations, including the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the Dutch police and the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service. In the team as a whole, we have further research projects funded by the European Commission, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Dutch police, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Ministry of Justice and Security. The team also plays a key role in the NWO-funded INTERSECT consortium that was recently awarded a 10 million Euro research grant for developing an Internet-of-Secure-Things.
Within TU Delft, we closely collaborate in teaching, student supervision and research with our colleagues in the Cybersecurity group at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. They are also hiring!
