Description:

Do you have a passion for research in the field of risk management and cyber security? Are you enthusiastic in helping companies and municipalities improving cyber security? Then we are looking for you!

What will you be doing?
As a junior researcher within the Centre of Expertise Cyber Security you are doing research in risk management in cyber security, guided by a Lector or a senior researcher.

Risk is inherent in any activity. A successful cybersecurity attack can cause damage to an organization, such as leading to large amounts of sensitive data being stolen (IT) or causing operational technologies (OT) to fail leading to direct physical harm. To mitigate the risk and damage associated with cybersecurity, it is important to know how to assess these risks, and proactively improve the system via design.

The focus of the research work will be in one or more of the following areas:

  • Collect cyber accidents and conduct accidents analysis;
  • Surveying the current state-of-the-art of cybersecurity risk management approaches/models, including but not limited to Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
  • Evaluating the risk management approach: this will involve research into methods of risk identification, risk estimation and risk evaluations, using qualitative approaches or quantitative approaches. Developing an easy-to-work-with cybersecurity risk management approach for SMEs;
  • Security decisions making: Besides IT investments, investigating what are possible human factors and business decisions that can improve cybersecurity. The consequence of the cyber risk will be studied during the risk management methods study. This includes the study of the economics of cyber security.

Besides your role as a junior researcher, you have the opportunity to work in the educational program or work in different projects with municipalities or private sectors. Moreover, there is also room for own initiative and new ideas for research.
