Cybersecurity Living Lab: Opportunity to Develop, Test and Evaluate Innovative Solutions with Help of Students & Researchers

In September 2024, the Cybersecurity Living Lab at the Dutch Innovation Factory in Zoetermeer has officially opened. This Living Lab is an experimental and innovative experimental work-learning-research environment created to promote collaboration among students, researchers, companies, and public institutions and provides many opportunities for HSD partners. In the lab new ideas, products, and services in cybersecurity can be developed, tested, and evaluated. Through innovative experiments and research, participants furthermore gain practical skills in effectively responding to cyber threats and managing risks.

Inside the lab: What goes on?

Since the opening, MBO, HBO and university students have been working together in the lab. The aim of the lab is to support real-time learning, by connecting theoretical research to practical application in a real life work environment. In the lab, the students work with companies on real cybersecurity problems, guided by researchers and teachers. Working, learning, and research come together and form the heart of the Living Lab, and together, they co-create cybersecurity.

Opportunities for companies/HSD partners

For HSD partners the lab is a perfect opportunity to collaborate with young talent and contribute to the development of newly gained knowledge and innovations in cybersecurity. The lab is intended for organisations who want to apply the expertise that the lab's researchers and teachers have developed, want to improve the security of their critical business data and overall cybersecurity level in their organisation.

Organisations can apply any challenges related to the IT/cybersecurity field. Such as questions relating to: Testing and co-creation of new cybersecurity products, Risk Assessment, Incident Response, Business Continuity, Risk Management Governance, Serious Gaming & Training for Cyber Risk Management, Questions relating to Risk Management Frameworks, Match making between Companies, Education, and Knowledge Institutions.

Join the Cybersecurity Living Lab conference

On 15 November from 10.00 till 14.00 hours, there will be a special conference at the Dutch Innovation Factory about the Cybersecurity Living Lab. The day before, on 14 November, from 14:00 till 17:00 hours, you can join Peter Roelofs at The Hague University of Applied Sciences for a toast, where he will present the Cyber Security Living Lab (CSyLL) and the first steps of their student Security Operation Center of the Future. Participants can play a Cyber War Game and experience cascade cyber risk management. Furthermore, CSyLL will present posters of our Cyber Risk Management Research.
