Firefighter

As a firefighter (Brandweer manschap) you are part of a team. When there is an emergency you move quickly with your team to the location and conduct reconnaissance activities to discover the causes. Based on the collective assessment of the team, your aim is to get control over the situation. Afterwards, you participate in the aftercare. To become a firefighter, you have to complete the education ‘Manschap a’ at the Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid and graduate with at least one specialisation. Safety and security are a top priority for you and your surroundings.

Functieomschrijving

Als brandweerman ben je onderdeel van een ploeg en werk je samen met de gehele bezetting van een brandweerwagen (ladderwagen, multifunctionele autopomp etc.). Bij een oproep ruk je uit met je ploeg en op de locatie van het incident voer je verkenningswerkzaamheden uit. Aan de hand daarvan zet je je in om de situatie onder controle te krijgen. Na afloop zorg je voor een goede afwerking van het incident en neem je deel aan evaluatie-, en nazorggesprekken. Deze taken worden uitgevoerd in 4 operationele gebieden: brandbestrijding, technische hulpverlening, optreden bij incidenten met gevaarlijke stoffen, en ondersteunen bij waterongevallen. 

Competenties, kennis en vaardigheden

• Minimaal 1 van de volgende specialisaties: chauffeur, gaspakdrager, meetploegen, duiker, oppervlakte-assistent, ambulancier
• Fysieke conditie op peil in lijn met medische criteria vooraf opgesteld
• Veiligheidsbewust
• Maximaal inzetbaar

Eisen

Om het beroepsprofiel Brandweer manschap a te vervullen moet je eerst Leergang Manschap a positief afronden. Daarnaast moet je tenminste 1 van de specialisaties uit kunnen oefenen. 

Professionele ontwikkeling

Na het behalen van de leergang Manschap a is het mogelijk een hogere rang te behalen mits je de juiste competenties en professionele vaardigheden beschikt. Dit kan als bevelvoerder of brandweerofficier. Je kan je ook ontwikkelen via de aangeboden leergangen, specialisaties en bijscholingstrajecten aangeboden op de website van het Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid.
