Modelling & Simulation (M&S) has become a critical technology for support of training, decision-making, and concept development in the Defence, Security and Safety domain. Are you challenged by delivering solutions to complex simulation engineering problems in a multi-disciplinary and often international team-effort? If so, we offer an exciting opportunity for a Medior Simulation Systems Integrator!

 

What will be your role?

As a Simulation Systems Engineer you will take initiative and lead development of solutions that address the challenges of multi-domain, multi-national distributed simulations. This includes the development of technical architectures and frameworks that offer solutions to meet the M&S needs of our Defence force. You will contribute to the development of M&S interoperability standards and design and evaluate solutions that leverage the latest cloud and virtual/mixed reality technologies, while meeting security needs and enabling integration of legacy simulation systems. You will apply your expertise in system requirements analysis and system design towards development and application of the (national) solutions for simulation architecture component. You will oversee implementation and development, integration and testing, and documentation quality assurance activities of simulation components. Other examples of your tasks:

  • To explore emerging technologies that may change simulations in the near future.
  • Coach junior scientists in Simulation Systems Engineering.
  • Contribute to a continuous improvement of our Simulation Systems Engineering expertise, including the development of M&S Architectures.
You will work in multidisciplinary project teams with experts from other TNO departments, and sometimes in an international context. You will also be part of the Modelling, Simulation & Gaming department: a close-knit team of 35 creative and committed colleagues with diverse backgrounds. From simulations to modelling and from artificial intelligence to deep learning: we have all the knowledge in-house.
 

What we expect from you

You like your work to be of significance to innovation in the military and security domain. It’s also important that you can deal properly with sensitive information. You’re good at collaborating in project teams and with partners, partly due to your good communication skills in Dutch (speaking and writing, level B2 for non-Dutch native speakers or like to learn and English (speaking and writing). In addition, you’re client-oriented and able to translate a client’s query into research and innovative ideas. 


Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:
  • A PhD or MSc in computer science, informatics, mathematics, physics, or comparable education.
  • You have experience working in complex and multi-disciplinary environments involving the development of software intensive systems and related architectures.
  • You are familiar with Systems Engineering activities and methodologies (e.g. INCOSE, agile development methodologies), including architectural frameworks, architectural development methods and languages
  • You preferably have knowledge of network security issues and its impact on M&S architectures.
  • You preferably have experience with M&S interoperability standards such as HLA and M&S engineering processes such as DSEEP.
  • You preferably have knowledge or are familiar with cloud based technologies.
  • An online assessment, short presentation of a related project and reference check can be part of the selection procedure.

The selection process

Please apply before May 1st, 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.


The selection process may include an online assessment, a short presentation of a relevant technical topic and a reference check.

As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (The Dutch General Information and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.
