Contributing to the big innovation challenges of the digital transformation of the Netherlands? Envision it. Become our Director of Science at TNO in The Hague.
What will be your role?
TNO envisions a future in which the physical and digital worlds are intertwined, and that will be founded on data, connectivity, and intelligence. This will enable a world with everything generating data, everything connected, and everything being processed in ways to create a sustainable economy in a safe society. Together with our 350 colleagues, we create innovative ICT concepts and technologies across four areas: fast open infrastructures, data sharing, trusted ICT and designed engineering of high-tech systems. As the Director of Science of the ICT unit at TNO, you’ll be responsible for the scientific knowledge base through which the unit will contribute to the digital transformation.
The Director of Science is the lynchpin of our unit’s knowledge development and TNO-wide early research programmes. In practical terms, this means that, together with senior scientists, you’ll be deciding on the new technologies to include in our technology roadmaps. In your role, you’ll regularly consult with the unit’s scientists and challenge their knowledge, while simultaneously supporting them in their professional development. You’ll maintain relationships within TNO and with other knowledge institutions. You’ll profile our knowledge base to attract talent, partners, and clients. You’ll be responsible for the unit’s Knowledge Audits and following up on the recommendations resulting from them. In short, you’ll be responsible for the knowledge level in the unit. In managing our portfolio, your role will be to translate current market demands into short-term knowledge investments and inspire market demand through long-term knowledge investments.
As part of the Team of Directors, you’ll work closely with the Director of Operations, Director of Market, and the Managing Director.

You understand how the world of research (domestically and internationally) works both from a scientific and an administrative perspective. You probably also know several TNO colleagues through your relevant network. Your active role as a strategic adviser or manager in the Dutch innovation system is how you maintain this network.
