Description:

We envision every building in the Netherlands having a virtual twin, a predictive digital twin, whose construction and material behaviour has been modelled and which, thanks to continuous real-time data feeds from innovative sensors, monitors its status and predicts itself when maintenance or repair will be required. Can you imagine what would be possible if we had this information from several buildings and managed assets for the replacement and renovation of buildings and infrastructure using this information?

What will be your role?

You will work as a scientist digitalisation & data science with a strong focus on BIM and Linked Data. As a scientist, you make data processes and workflows transparent and develop data architectures. You apply your knowledge of open standards, security,  applications and application landscapes, and offer advice on how information can be stored, accessed, and reused in the right way. As a scientist, you write or co-write research proposals and scientific articles.

At TNO Buildings, Infrastructure & Maritime (BI&M), we work on tangible solutions to major social issues for a safe and sustainable built environment. This is no mean feat, considering the increasing burden on the road and waterway network, the enormous housing challenge, and emission issues during a time of major energy and climate transitions. Digitalisation is making an increasingly important contribution to solving these issues in the Building and Infrastructure sector.

What we expect from you

You have the skills to (independently) convert ideas into working prototypes of tools or products and guide others to develop their ideas into marketable products. You are inquisitive, objective, and verbally expressive. You can work well together in a diverse and international team. You have knowledge of common data standards (such as IFC, BCF, etc.) – especially their limitations. Furthermore, being able to program with various programming languages (JAVA, Python, etc.) is recommended.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A university degree with a technical background with a specialisation in BIM/IT.
  • You have extensive experience with and knowledge of (open) BIM.
  • You have knowledge of building practice, from the design phase to the use phase.
  • You have knowledge of Semantic Linked Data or are eager to learn more about it soon.
  • You have experience with or knowledge of (BIM)SparQL, JSON, voxels, 3D geometry, and server-side computing (machine learning). Practical knowledge of machine-learning libraries (such as TensorFlow, Keras, sklearn, Caffe, Torch) is an advantage.

What you’ll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3.700,- and € 5.800,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

Perhaps you would like to grow your career in the direction of commerce or consultancy? Or would you like to become a project manager? Immerse yourself in sustainable innovations? Or carve out a career as a technical expert?

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
  • A good pension scheme.
  • Travel allowance.
  • Possibility of a permanent contract.
  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • 28 days annual leave and 5 compensation days under the reduction in working hours scheme (ATV, arbeidstijdverkorting) on a full-time basis.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility of working from home.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • Extensive relocation package for international candidates.
