The Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University is looking for a new colleague for the position of Assistant Professor of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Public Sector
This position contributes to the Institute of Public Administration's ambition to further strengthen its education and research in this area. We are looking for candidates with a background in public administration, public policy, digital government or a comparable field. The new colleague will be positioned in the Digitalisation and Public Policy group, a creative and ambitious team working on digitalisation, data and AI in public policy and governance. The team is committed to team-based science and education and has excellent working relationships with other groups and disciplines, is an active member of SAILS (the interdisciplinary AI network at Leiden University), and actively seeks collaboration with public sector practice.
The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is one of the seven faculties of Leiden University. The faculty has an international profile, is developing strongly and consists of various institutes and centres such as the Institute of Public Administration, the Leiden University College, the Institute of Security and Global Affairs and the Centre for Professional Learning at various locations in The Hague.
The Institute of Public Administration in The Hague is one of the largest and oldest institutions for scientific research and education in public administration in the Netherlands. It combines a strong international academic reputation with a central position among international, national, regional and local government institutions, including those in The Hague. The institute has received various national and international research grants including several VENI and VIDI grants from the Dutch National Science Organization, and grants for collaborative work from the EU (including ERC grants). In addition, the staff is also active in contract-research and teaching, which involves local and national government but also other public organizations from within Europe.
The Institute of Public Administration consistently receives high ratings in peer reviews for both its teaching and research programmes. The institute offers a Dutch-taught bachelor's program with two tracks, a Dutch-taught master's program in Management of the public sector, an English-taught master's program in Public Administration and participates in various programs with other faculties, including the master's program Governance of Sustainability and master's programs in digitization and Population Health Management.

Terms and conditions
The appointment will be under the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of Dutch Universities. You will be offered a temporary appointment for 18 months. Depending upon funding and performance, the position can be extended to a permanent position. The salary varies, depending on qualifications and experience, from € 3,807.- to € 5,211.- gross per month based on full-time employment (scale 11 for Assistant professor).
