Assistant professor of Law and Digital Technologies (0.80-1.0 fte)

Key responsibilities

• Giving lectures and holding tutorials as well as coordinating teaching in the advanced master law and digital technologies and bachelor courses;
• Independent performance and acquisition of research in the field of law and digital technologies;
• Assisting in management tasks within the center and faculty.

Selection criteria

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in law; multidisciplinary background (e.g. masters degree in sociology, criminology, philosophy of technnology) is an advantage;
• A completed phd in the field of law and digital technologies on topics, such as internet governance, cybersecurity/cybercrime, fundamental rights (including privacy) in the digital world, and/or data science;
• Broad general knowledge of in the field law and digital technologies;
• Excellent research qualities, demonstrated by peer reviewed; (international) publications;
• Extensive experience and affinity with teaching and coordinating courses;
• Excellent teaching qualities, demonstrated by excellent teaching evaluations;
• Excellent english, spoken and written; command of the dutch language is an advantage;
• Preferably experience with research acquisition and management;
• Within our policy framework on quality, almost all academic staff at the faculty of law have obtained a phd degree and have met the requirements for the advanced research qualification. In addition, they make a significant contribution to the faculty research programme. The center for law and digital technologies (elaw) was founded in 1985 and has a leading role in research and education on law and digital technologies.

The center studies the social, legal and normative impact of emerging digital technologies. The focus of our research and education is particularly on digital technologies and their interplay with fundamental rights and the rule of law.

Terms and conditions

We offer a year term position, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from € 3475.- to € 5405.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 11 or 12 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). Preferred start date is 1 september 2017.
