The NATO Communications & Information Agency (NCIA) is leading NATO’s Digital Endeavour.  The roles of Technical Support Engineer will be part of the Command & Control (C2) service line based from The Hague, Netherlands.

The role:

C2 are accountable for the design, transition and operations of technology systems for Joint, Maritime and Land Command and Control services.  The Technical Support Engineer will be part of the Mission Support Services (MSS) group who are responsible for providing integrated C2 technical support services across the C2 portfolio.  The team owns Situational Awareness services and are responsible for designing, transitioning and operating C2 services in support of operational missions and exercise. The team is a blend of civilian and deployable military personnel with specialised C2 domain expertise who are deployed in operations and exercises.

 

This role will provide technical support services to the C2 applications and services including emergency troubleshooting and on-site assistance (at NATO and national sites) to ensure key information systems remain operational.  The role will provide assistance with data collection and analysis whilst participating in the program design, development, debugging and documentation of software including prototypes to capture and validate user requirements using the available tools to support the full software lifecycle.

 

The role will also:

  • Support the analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of authorized software changes, related applications software and the integration/tailoring of vendor supplied components, following established procedures for quality, configuration control, testing, documentation and security
  • Assist in the fielding of systems into the operational environment
  • Assist in the preparation of documents and reports, and occasionally give briefings and presentations

About you:

In addition to accepting and tackling demanding goals, having the following background would support an application:

  • Demonstrable experience with the operation, administration, testing and maintenance of software for modern information systems in a networked and distributed environment
  • Knowledge of operating systems that are currently used for modern information systems
  • Competent with the Administration of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)
  • Competent with Administration of information systems based on Service-Oriented Architectures, including Web Services
  • Experience with Virtualization technology
  • Working knowledge of modern digital networking techniques, protocols and standards
  • Ideally experience with data and systems interoperability, interoperability testing standards, procedures and methodologies
  • Exposure to IT Service Management and tools
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English to produce technical documents such as technical notes, reports, and reference documents
  • Produce and support the development of proposals with technical inputs
  • Experience with Server Clustering, familiarity with PC hardware and networking techniques
  • Experience with containerisation technology
  • Ideally experience of systems support and maintenance in the NATO or national defence environment
  • Ideally knowledge of security assurance requirements for military information systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with (ideally military) information exchange standards
