Apply your knowledge of data science to analyse military exercise data. You’ll develop methods and visualisations for use during a live international exercise.

What will be your role?

Military capabilities are used in missions and peacekeeping operations, but they have to be trained, tested and improved during exercises, both live and simulated. Every two years, dutch and allied forces come together on the dutch basis vredepeel to train their air and missile defence. A team of tno analysts supports this exercise with the simulation jroads and collects data for analysis during the exercise.

Your internship assignment is to research the best method(s) for analysing exercise data, to create a method demonstrator and to make the analysis results traceable, explainable and understandable to various audiences. These include scientists (both data science and other backgrounds) as well as military officials involved with the exercise.

A large data set from jpow 2021 is available for you to build and train your methods. We encourage you to apply your knowledge of the theory and try out the latest methods and insights. Near the end of the internship you may have the opportunity to join our tno team at jpow 2023 and demonstrate the methods and visualisations you have created.

How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at tno and envision it.
