About us The people we all rely on to make the world go round – they rely on Thales. In a world that is increasingly fast-moving, unpredictable and full of opportunities, they come to us with big ambitions: to make life better and to keep you safer. Combining a unique diversity of expertise, talents and cultures, our employees  design and deliver extraordinary high-tech solutions. With 68.000 talents working in 54 countries, 2000 employees are based in the Netherlands. We are one of the biggest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security. We help our customers think smarter and act faster in the fields of transportation, defence , space, aerospace  and cyberspace, mastering ever-greater complexity and every decisive moment along the way. We are therefore leading the digital transformation, focusing on artificial intelligence, big-data & data analytics, connectivity, mobility and internet of things and cybersecurity.   In the Netherlands, we are located in five cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we work on radars for naval vessels, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communication equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions, research & development for radar tech (in collaboration with TU Delft) and research & development for serious gaming (in collaboration with the University of Twente). The Assignment is issued under the Engineering department. This  department is responsible for the realization of all systems put under contract as well as product development. This assignment is part of activities in the field of training and simulation from the engineering department.   ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT The use of VR for training simulation and collaboration is growing in the world. Us of VR can lead to big cost savings for our customers. Thales investigates and develops a 3D virtual world application ( called Social Virtual Worlds) to be added to the product portfolio for training & collaboration. The VR Application we use is the opens course application called OpenSim with its associated VR viewer. OpenSim is based on the well known VR SecondLife a product of Linden Labs. In the US The VR can be used to visualize data outside of the VR from various interfaces and the internet. An example of such an application is to position objects from a trajectory simulator running on the internet on a land pam in the VR. To be able to do these things a generic way of interfacing with the externals sources is needed. This generic application should be easy to instantiate to the source you want to integrate with the VR.   The assignment is to design a frame work in a dedicated separate server  which has a communication protocol with the OpenSim application and can received information from various dedicated interfaces or the internet. The frame work must allow its user to create the conversions quickly and efficient. The interface to the VR is defined as HTTP.   Part of the assignment is implementing the framework and establish an interface with our Command & Control system TACTICOS.   The work to be done is to Define an Design a framework for data conversion of sources to an interface with the VR Implement a prototype of the framework. Use the framework to create a connection between the VR and the TACTICOS CMS.   AFFINITY HTML, PHP , C , C++, Java, Java script. Web applicaties
