What will be your role?

You’ll manage several research projects at the same time. The scope of these projects varies from B2B consultancy to long-term, subsidized research projects such as Horizon Europe, European Funds for Regional Development (EFRO) and Top Consortia for Knowledge and Innovation (TKI) projects.


In projects involving consortia, stakeholder management is a crucial task because of differing and sometimes conflicting interests.


You are skilled at influencing partners to work towards a common goal and to develop concrete plans with wide support from stakeholders.


You will provide leadership and direction for your projects with the support of subject matter experts where necessary.
You will monitor progress of projects and if needed make any adjustments to the budget, timelines, team composition, and deliverables, in consultation with customers or stakeholders.


Your teams will primarily work in areas such as post quantum cryptography, homomorphic encryption and quantum applications, but other topics are also possible.


Your projects involve research & development, technical strategy, standardization, simulations, technology and application trials and consultancy/advisory.

About the department
The TNO’s Applied Cryptography and Quantum Algorithms (ACQuA) expertise group is your home base. We are a strong and enthusiastic team that deals with innovations in cryptography and quantum applications. The quantum computing age is upon us. And it brings a variety of challenges with it. But there are also vast opportunities to utiliseutilize all of quantum computing’s potential. Besides developing solutions for that, the ACQuA expertise group also exploits new cryptographic technologies to create privacy-friendly and quantum-save applications that change the way we interact, share and protect in the digital world. The ACQuA expertise group is a unique combination of mathematicians, computer scientists and physicists. This enables us to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and develop more effective solutions. ACQuA works with other TNO departments, public and private organizations and academia to apply our knowledge and build working solutions. We create state-of-the-art software, algorithms and strategies, for today and for the upcoming quantum age. Our expertise and independent market position make us an ideal partner for development. We also address the organisational, legal and ethical challenges our developed technology brings to allow for direct application of our solutions. The department ACQuA has tree locations: The Hague, Groningen and Eindhoven.
 

What we expect from you

You’re energisedenergized by managing multidisciplinary research projects. The intrinsic uncertainties of innovative projects with unknown outcomes do not throw you off course. Inspiring people, but also structuring the creativity of researchers in order to achieve a feasible result together, is in your DNA. You have strong communication skills and are able to manage the sensitivities and interests of different stakeholders with the aim of aligning interests to make progress. You lead or contribute to all phases related to a project including acquisition/proposal writing, project planning, team formation, project execution, project delivery and customer acceptance. You lead meetings that are motivating and result-driven for you team. You take a genuine interest in your colleagues and help them in their development.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Relevant domain knowledge and network. is a plus.
  • Extensive eExperience of project management .
  • Experience of IPMA or other project management methods.

The selection process

Please apply before the 1st of September, 2023. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package.

The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.

A certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.

As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (The Dutch General Information and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.
